Apple reach staggering 25 billion download App Store milestone
If anyone out there has downloaded a party poppers app, now would be the time to open it, as Apple have just passed 25 billion downloads.
The incredible figure was marked by an announcement on Apple's website (featured above) which simply read: "The App Store has reached 25 billion downloads. Thanks for getting us there."
Clearly, whoever the person is who was responsible for the 25 billionth download will likely be expecting more than just Apple's thanks, so the company have revealed that they will add a '25 billion app countdown' website at a later date to reveal who is the lucky recipient of a $10,000 App Store gift card.
The prize leads us to a few pressing questions. Is Apple going to reveal what the person downloaded? That could be extremely embarrassing for both the downloader and Apple if the 25 billionth app download was a €0.79 'LingerieTube' app, right? And secondly, how the hell could anyone spend $10,000 in the lifetime within the App Store?
Either way, the figure is a huge sign of Apple's success, as the App Store took nine months to reach its first billion downloads and when you consider that fourteen months ago in January 2011, the number of downloads was at 10 billion.
