Are women better cheaters than men?
Are we all devils and are all women angels? Our columnist Claire Tully thinks women are just better at getting away with playing away.

We men get a bad press when it comes to infidelity. But according to Claire Tully, this just shows that women are better at getting away with playing away.

If your girlfriend is cheating on you then you probably won’t have a clue about it. If on the other hand, you’ve suddenly started thinking she’s doing a lot more than window shopping, chances are you’re just a bit insecure.

You see it’s not that women don’t cheat – we do, almost as much as men in fact. The big difference is we just don’t get caught.

Of course when most people think of infidelity in a relationship, they automatically think of the man as being the unfaithful one. Out to sow his seed and incapable of resisting anything in a skirt with a heartbeat. When a relationship collapses we rarely jump to the conclusion it was the woman’s roaming eye to blame.

The thing is women are natural-born liars. From an early age we’re trained to lie and we do it without a second thought. It might just be saying we had a lovely time when we didn’t or that someone looked nice when they didn’t, but in our defence we do it because we don’t want to make someone feel bad.

Worse for men

And we can safely say finding out about an affair would make a guy feel bad - arguably worse than many women do because we at least have some sort of expectation that this might happen.

Most unfaithful men will laugh in amusement when asked if their girlfriends have ever cheated on them.

A friend of mine recently remarked “It’s an insanely absurd question! I mean, why in God’s name would SHE, cheat on ME?!”

Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if a girl is cheating on you it’s usually for one of the following reasons: (a) You don’t make her feel sexy and loved, (b) it’s genetic or (c) she just wants you to dump her because she’s too lazy to do it herself. None of which bode well for the partner.

Beautiful women ARE more likely to cheat... and of course, they’re not short on offers.

Men on the other hand cheat because they want sex. Sex, sex and more sex, with a little bit of sex on top. It’s physical, it’s an instant thrill and they want it simply because it’s there.

Interestingly, on the day after Mother’s Day there are more female subscribers to dating websites than any other day of the year. So yeah, forgetting her flowers or not making a big fuss will come back and bite you in the ass.

And to make things even worse for all you trophy-girlfriend idolising guys out there, beautiful women ARE more likely to cheat – because they have higher levels of oestrogen, the hormone that plays a role in gifting them their fabulous figures and looks. Women with high levels are more likely to be unsatisfied with their current partner, therefore more prone to cheat on them when the opportunity arises. And of course, they’re not short on offers.

An interesting figure shows up to 15% of children haven’t been fathered by the man who thinks he has. But when you think about who is to blame, well men don’t want to think women cheat and women don’t want them to know they cheat.

So I suppose it’s no surprise then that when it comes to affairs men really are the last to know.
