The prizes were divided fairly evenly across the board at Fairyhouse today with six different winning trainers and six different winning jockeys. (The only one with more than one winner was the JOE tipster, who selected tipped three of the six on the day – were you paying attention?)
The biggest prize on offer was the €10,005 on offer for the winner of the www.fairyhouse.ie Handicap Hurdle, and like so often in recent weeks it was Willie Mullins who claimed the spoils with Vast Consumption (3/1 favourite), who was a cheeky half-length winner at the line ahead of the Dessie Hughes-trained Caheronaun.
Earlier in the day the Easter Festival 8th-10th April Novice Hurdle went the way of the long odds-on favourite Galileo’s Choice (2/9) from the Dermot Weld yard, who was an easy four-and-a-half lengths too good for outsider Becauseicouldntsee with Mullins’s French import Terminal a further length and a half back in third.
Elsewhere on the card there were wins for Like Your Style (8/1), Knockmehill Lady (12/1), Clashnabrook (5/2 favourite) and Katies Benefit (6/1).
JOE’s 60-second tips this morning proved fairly profitable. Okay, anyone could have selected Galileo’s Choice but the selections of Clashnabrook and Katies Benefit left us nicely in the black.
Please, allow us to blow our own trumpet. Self-praise is sometimes the only kind of praise an Irish man knows.
