Fergie hoping title form is replicated at Cheltenham today
With Manchester United hitting the Premier League heights at just the right time, Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that his luck carries on to the track in Cheltenham this afternoon.

With Manchester United hitting the Premier League heights at just the right time, Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that his luck carries on to the track in Cheltenham this afternoon.

The Red Devils were due to fly out to Bilbao this morning in an attempt to overcome a 3-2 first leg deficit to an extremely impressive Spanish side tomorrow night, but you can be damn sure that the wily old Scot will have arrived in time to check on the progress of Harry the Viking in the first race of the second day of the Cotswolds festival.

Ferguson owns a stake in the six-year old gelding, who is the 13/2 second favourite for the Diamond Jubilee National Hunt Chase which will be off and running at 1.30 pm today. The Paul Nicholls-trained horse has been out of action since he last won in Doncaster in December, but prior to that he had racked up four consecutive victories preceded by a runners-up spot.

Jockey Will Biddick will be clad in Fergie’s colours of red and white stars this afternoon, the same colours worn by Mick Kinane and Johnny Murtagh aboard the famous Rock of Gibraltar - a horse also part-owned by Ferguson - who won several significant Group One races back in the early 2000s.

That horse proved to be the subject of a major falling out between Fergie and John Magnier over the breeding rights, but considering that Harry the Viking is a gelding, there’s no chance of that scenario repeating itself in this case.

Fergie will no doubt be tuning in from Spain and if, like the United boss, you want to keep up to date with all the runners and riders, we’ll be following all the events on day two of the Cheltenham festival in our live tracker, which gets underway around noon today.
