JOE’s Top Five Weekend Goals: Terranova, Arango and Ronaldo

It was another high-class week for goals. It was so good that none from the Premier League made the cut, not even James McClean’s or Keith Andrews’ efforts.

It was another high-class week for goals. It was so good that none from the Premier League made the cut, not even James McClean’s or Keith Andrews’ efforts.

Sofiane Feghouli (VALENCIA v Sporting Gijon)

The Algerian international got the first as Valencia crawled their way up to within eight points of Barcelona after a 4-0 win over poor Sporting Gijon.

This is how you finish a shot from the edge of the box, by the way.

Christian Fabbiani (INDEPENDIENTE RIVADAVIA v Almirante Brown)

Our weekly countdown wouldn’t be complete without a crazy goal from the environs of the halfway line and once again our friends in South America have stepped up to the mark.

Known as ‘The Ogre’ in Argentina, Fabbiani’s goal was from the kick-off for the second half for added in-your-facedness.

Emanuele Terranova (SASSUOLO v Bari)

A bit of Serie B action but it was the best goal of the weekend in Italy. Terranova’s spiralling, incredibly high, sort-of overhead kick was a stunning finish. Having watched it 10 times we still don’t know how he did it.

Juan Arango (BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH v Schalke)

The Venezuelan midfielder is famed for his great goals but we don’t think he has scored one finer than this. It took a very late entry from the next man up to beat this strike, a super curling free kick.

Cristiano Ronaldo (REAL MADRID v Levante)

We could talk about the stats (119 goals in 122 games now for Real), we could talk about his hair (slightly longer on top, not sure it suits him) but we will only talk about this goal.

It brought up his hat-trick and pushed Real 10 points clear of Barca at the top of La Liga but this goal is just stunning, with a dip on it that is unstoppable. A worthy goal of the week winner.
