This picture of lightning striking St. Peter's Basilica is pretty amazing and it's sure to get the God worshipers and conspiracy theorists talking...
You may have heard that the Pope is planning on hanging up his frock at the end of February. It was a pretty big deal yesterday. Well, just after the announcement, one of his senior cardinals said it was “like a lightning bolt in a clear blue sky”, and only hours after he uttered those words a lightning bolt from a freak thunderstorm hit the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.
It might be time to crack out those rosary beads, just in case.
Freelance photographer Filippo Monteforte was in the right place at the right time to capture the image that has some saying it’s a sign from God. But is it a sign from above, or just a coincidence? As Psalm 29 says: "The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning."
