Picture: Just Morrissey and Robbie Keane hanging out in the LA Galaxy dressing room
From being mistaken as a fan alongside Becks and Russell Brand to posing for a photo alongside Morrissey in the dressing room, the celebrity wheel has turned full circle for Robbie Keane in LA.

From being mistaken as a fan alongside Becks and Russell Brand to posing for a photo alongside Morrissey in the dressing room, the celebrity wheel has turned full circle for Robbie Keane in LA.

The former Smiths front man was in LA to watch Robbie score a brilliant goal en route to Galaxy’s victory over Tijuana in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night and he met up with the Irish captain (who, it turns out, is a relation of his) for a bit of a chinwag in the dressing room afterwards.

While it would have been perfectly understandable if Robbie was a little star struck in Morrissey’s presence, it seems as if the shoe was on the other foot on this occasion as Morrissey waxed lyrical about Keane and their shared connections in a post on Morrissey fan website, True to You.

“It was a joyous head-storm to attend LA Galaxy v Club Tijuana last night and to see captain Robbie Keane score in the fourth minute. Why, exactly?” Morrissey wrote.

“Well, family tree aficionados will be aware that Robbie and I share the same Irish blood; his late grandfather (Thomas Nolan) being my own father's cousin. In filial terms the Irish blood, English heart genetic between Robbie and I is evident - his chin is my chin, my chin is his.

“Robbie was raised on Captain’s Road (as was my mother) in Crumlin (Dublin), before he was shipped out to Tallaght. He is a gentleman of the highest caliber (or, if you must, calibre), and to watch him on the pitch - pacing like a lion, as weightless as an astronaut, is pure therapy. Robbie, the pleasure, the privilege is mine.

It’s safe to say that this will be the first and last time that the name Robbie Keane and the phrases ‘weightless as an astronaut’, ‘pacing like a lion’ and ‘pure therapy’ will appear together in the same sentence.
