Quick energy tip No 5: Reducing costs with ‘A’ rated appliances

Saving energy around the house doesn't necessarily mean having to crack out the tool box and a tub of elbow grease. Here's how to do it with 'A' rated appliances.

‘A’ Rated Appliances

Be demanding when you buy new appliances, because it's the only way you're going to save in the long run. You’re the one forking over the cash so make sure you get the best product you can for the money at your disposal. All appliances these day's need an energy rating label so check for one. If they don't have an energy rating label then you could very well be getting a dodgy piece of kit.

Purchase ‘A’ rated appliances whenever possible, as the amount they will save you on electricity will be more than the cost of replacing the existing appliances you have.

The best example of the ‘A’ rating system can be seen on the side of your fridge. Fridges still vary vastly from excellent ‘A’ rated fridges, which are often a tad more expensive to start off with, to the ill-fated ‘G’ rated fridges which are often initially cheaper, but much more expensive to maintain in the long run.

So remember, buying energy efficient appliances saves you money and also benefits the environment. The next time you need a kitchen appliance, make sure to check the energy label and choose the most efficient one you can.

You could end up saving yourself a small fortune on your annual electricity bill if your kitchen appliances are ‘A’ rated.
