We’ve been told something massive is on its way to Dublin this weekend and we promise it’s something good.
Big is best, right? There’s a reason why the Grand Canyon is a world famous tourist attraction and why that hole in your back garden is only of interest to your dog. There’s a reason why Uluru in Australia is an icon of a nation while that rock near your back door is only good for hiding the keys. There’s a reason why the Giants Causeway appears in all those tourism ads while that step that looks like Enda Kenny’s face at your local is not.
It’s because we are drawn to items larger than ourselves. And if they don’t exist naturally, we bloody well build them. The Pyramids, Machu Picchu, Newgrange, Jedward’s hair; all oversized, all much, much larger than life, and all loved by (nearly) everybody.
We don’t know how this fascination started or where it will ultimately lead us but all we do know is that it means the world is full of lots of very cool stuff and the trend is certainly not slowing down.
With that in mind, you must head to Harvey Norman in Carrickmines this weekend. Much more will be revealed tomorrow but as we said at the top, it’s big, really big and you won’t want to miss it.
