Some crazy football fans will go to extreme lengths in order to show their support. Some even crazier fans will stage a themed wedding to profess just how much they love their club.
In this case, the club in question was Liverpool and the fans in question were Mr and Mrs. Han, who allowed the most important day of their lives become something like a ritualistic day of worship for all things LFC.
Guests dressed in Liverpool jerseys, carried gifts such as footballs, Kenny Dalglish scarves and replica Champions League trophies and belted out ‘You’ll never Walk Alone’ at the top of their voices as the actual exchanging of vows, cutting of the cake, confirmation of marriage and all that other irrelevant stuff took a distant back seat to the Liverpool worship on show.
Explaining the reason behind the wedding in a post accompanying the video on YouTube (apologies in advance for the poor grammar), Mrs. Han said: “We are Liverpool fans living in Singapore some 6823.5 Miles from the city of Liverpool. In late 2001, thought our support for our beloved team, we met each other @ Official Liverpool FC Fanclub Singapore Branch. What follow was a courtship unlike other couples. Our dates were watching Liverpool FC together every weekend. Everywhere we go, we were dressed up in identical LFC tops…
“When we finally decide to take the path to marriage, our wedding had to be LIVERPOOL FC-inspire theme. Our friends would come in their soccer jerseys. This clip shows our first march in which was very unique as we walk in with the theme song – “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. A song that symbolises our baby steps in courtship to being husband and wife…
“We hope by sharing this video here, 1) Shows that it possible to meet your other half @ a soccer game screening. 2) It makes your dates more fun as you talk about Liverpool and buy Liverpool !! 3) We hope that by sharing this video, John W. Henry and others in Liverpool FC would feel the love of the club from the fans in SINGAPORE and ASIA as a whole. Hope whoever sees this video, please share with your fellow Liverpool fans. YNWA.”
It's certainly bizarre, but it goes to show the level of support for the Premier League in Asia and any of the Liverpool hierarchy who might have seen it are either stepping up their Asian marketing strategies or planning next year's pre-season tour of Singapore as we speak.
By the way, did anyone else spot the Chelsea jersey in the background?
