Doesn’t Samir Nasri know that everything these days is spotted on camera? That includes putting your rather colourful undies on display when you’re on the bench.
Just before he entered the fray against Napoli yesterday evening, Nasri refrained from the usual things footballers do before going onto the pitch – making sure their hair is OK, removing oversized jewellery and, in Mario Balotelli’s case, putting his iPad back in its case – and instead pulled down his shorts to reveal the most colourful and fruity underwear we’ve seen in many a year.
Amply decorated with pink, blue, yellow and purple lovehearts, they were the type of garment you’d get on a bargain rail in Topman or River Island for little more than a fiver.
Whether he was trying to send out a secret message to a loved one or to out-Mario Mario Balotelli remains uncertain, but his little publicity stunt certainly caught the eye.
Seeing as the snood favoured by so Manchester City players is now banned, jocks like Nasri’s just might become the fashion accessory to have in 2012.
