They want to take the fun out of funerals.
The Chinese Ministry of Culture has issued a statement that they plan to work closely with the police to eliminate the practice of hiring strippers for funerals.
Strippers are hired to attract a bigger crowd to the funeral. The big crowd is seen as a harbinger of good fortune in the afterlife. The government has condemned such performances for corrupting the social atmosphere.
What ever happened to the time-honoured tradition of a body laid up in the sitting-room where everyone can sit around it, staring at it, crying and singing songs about fellahs in boats and fierce winds?
