Throughout 2016 there have been several incidents of migrant boats capsizing and sinking off the coasts of Libya, Turkey and Greece.
Many of the dead are often children, seeking to escape countries that have been rendered unliveable by both foreign air-strikes and civil conflict.
Ireland takes in nowhere near the amount of refugees it promised to take in as part of the EU’s relocation program. Never the less, anti-refugee sentiment is strong enough amongst some that this incendiary message appeared at a Dublin Bus bus stop near St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday morning.
Dublin Bus have been contacted to remove the message, which reads: “Who cares who is drowning in the sea! They’re not ours! Draw a line under it!”
@Colmogorman @DearbhailDibs @aoifemrtn @colettebrowne Please help me ask @dublinbusnews to remove this. (Stop 2383) pic.twitter.com/4yYtkXwpa7
