A brilliant achievement…
Some 57,000 Leaving Certificate students are set to receive their results on Wednesday.
Students can collect their results from their schools from 9am or, if they don’t mind waiting it out, the can receive them online by visiting the State Examinations Commission website from midday.
The results have seen improvements in the grades achieved in higher level maths and science subjects but the State Examinations Commission have said that this year’s results are broadly in line with last years.
It is just the second year of new simplified Leaving Cert marking system which has just eight grading levels.
A small number of students managed to receive top marks in their exams, with seven students securing top grades (H1s) across eight subjects.
In total, a further 53 students secured H1s in seven subjects, while 189 achieved H1s in six subjects.
Minister for Education Richard Bruton led the tributes to this year’s students and said they, “should all be so proud of the work” they’ve put in and what they’ve have achieved.
“Students receiving your results today, I want you to know that there are more opportunities now than ever before, to help you achieve your ambitions in life. There are a number of pathways to further your education, whether you choose third level, a post leaving certificate course, or the apprenticeship and traineeship routes.
“For students who may not have done as well as you might have hoped, don’t panic, take time to consider all your options and remember that there are a number of routes now available to lead you to your chosen career. Whatever your results today – there are plenty of opportunities for you.
Bruton also commented on new that subjects that have and will be introduced to schools around the country from next yer.
“This is the first year where the new Leaving Certificate subject of Politics and Society was examined,” Bruton said. “I would like to welcome this development and the successful examination of the subject.
“This subject is now available to all schools as a Leaving Certificate option from September 2018. Two further new Leaving Certificate subjects. Computer Science and Physical Education, will also be introduced to schools on a phased basis from September 2018.”
