One road has been made “impassable” and a number of shops and restaurants have had to temporarily close.
There have been reports of “severe flooding” in parts of south Dublin on Saturday afternoon as a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning remains in place for most of the country.
In a statement on Twitter, Gardaí said that Roebuck Road in Clonskeagh in Dublin 14 has been made impassible due to the heavy rain.
“Please take caution if you are driving in this area. Local diversions are in place,” Gardaí wrote.

Meanwhile, the nearby Dundrum Town Centre took to Twitter to alert customers that due to the “sudden heavy downpour”, it was “experiencing isolated flooding in the Pembroke District and Level 1 Mall areas”.
“Our teams are working hard to manage this and we will post any further info on our channels,” the shopping centre wrote.

In a follow-up post, Dundrum Town Centre announced that a number of restaurants located in its Pembroke District – Jamie’s Italian, Nandos, The Counter and Zizzi’s – were forced to temporarily close due to the flooding.
Meanwhile, the shopping centres’ Level 1 Mall area between Butler’s Cafe and Clarks also remains closed.

Met Éireann’s Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is currently in effect for 18 counties and is valid until 8pm on Saturday.
It applies to all of Leinster, along with the counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Roscommon and Sligo.
The warning said there would be scattered heavy showers with localised thundery downpours throughout Saturday, which would bring the risk of spot flooding.
