This World Kindness Day, there’s one person you should be extra kind to: yourself.
We all talk a big game about kindness. Hold the door open. Compliment a stranger’s jacket. Buy the next round. All lovely stuff. But when was the last time you treated yourself with that same level of kindness?
For a lot of people in Ireland, kindness comes naturally, just not when we try applying it to ourselves. We beat ourselves up. We push through stress. We tell ourselves we should be able to handle everything on our own.
And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or disconnected then chances are you’ve said that classic Irish line: "I’m grand.”
Except sometimes we’re not grand. Sometimes we need connection, real connection, with people who understand what we’re going through.
This is where Grow Mental Health comes in.
Grow Mental Health is a community-based mental health organisation funded by the HSE. They run free support groups all across Ireland, online and in person, where adults can talk, listen, learn coping skills, and build confidence in a safe and supportive space.
Think of it as a weekly reset button for your mind, like going to a gym where the main focus is on your Mental Health.
We’re wired to look after everyone else first. But kindness doesn’t start with grand gestures, it starts with how we talk to ourselves and how we treat ourselves.
Self-kindness can look like:
Joining a Grow group isn’t a sign that something is wrong with you. It’s a sign you’re ready to do something right for you.
Some people come because they’re going through a tough period. Others come because they want connection and a bit more balance in life. Everyone leaves feeling lighter.
This World Kindness Day, you can do something incredibly powerful.
Not for your boss. Not for your friends. For you.
This World Kindness Day, choose self-kindness with Grow Mental Health. Join a free, friendly support group - online or in-person and connect with others who understand. Take a small, powerful step toward better wellbeing and remind yourself: you deserve care, connection, and kindness.
