Here are the 6 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

A mixed bag, to be honest.

Maybe go to the cinema instead?

We review all of the new releases, including Mile 22 (in cinemas now), The Little Stranger, A House With A Clock In Its Walls, and A Perfect Stranger (all in cinemas this weekend) in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski right here:

If you are couch-bound, then maybe check one (or two? Or more? We’re not here to tell you how to live your lives) of the below:

THURSDAY 20 SEPTEMBER

About A Boy – Film 4 – 7.00pm

Hugh Grant stars as a sex-obsessed singleton, who happens to cross paths with loveable weirdo Nicholas Hault, who blackmails him into hanging out together. Toni Collette and Rachel Weisz also star in this very entertaining rom-com with a nice dark twist to it.

Rocky II – ITV2 – 9.00pm

The one with Apollo convincing Rocky to get back into the ring with him. A good sequel.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby – Comedy Central – 9.00pm

“Dear Lord Baby Jesus, or as our brothers to the south call you, Jesús, we thank you so much for this bountiful harvest of Domino’s, KFC, and the always delicious Taco Bell. I just want to take time to say thank you for my family, my two beautiful, beautiful, handsome, striking sons, Walker and Texas Ranger, or T.R. as we call him, and of course, my red-hot smoking wife, Carly, who is a stone-cold fox.”

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – Syfy – 10.00pm

Angelina Jolie is decent in the lead role, and it still remains one of the best movies-based-on-a-video-game ever made, despite not actually being very good. It also features Daniel Craig as the kind of villain/kind of love interest, and Jolie’s real-life dad Jon Voight as, well, her dad.

The Haunting – Film 4 – 11.00pm

Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Owen Wilson, and Lili Taylor star in this terrible, TERRIBLE horror film. However, and yes it is terrible, but it is one of those terrible films that accidentally becomes very entertaining. Something we call The Showgirls Effect.

The Hangover – TCM – 11.00pm

“It’s where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it’s not a purse, it’s called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.”
