With the weather we’re having, we recommend some sort of mobile TV set-up in the back garden if at all possible.
On a Bank Holiday weekend, set to be the hottest weekend of the year, with daylight likely to stretch until close to Saturday, you’ll be forgiven if the best movies on the box aren’t priority number one this evening.
But if you are staying indoors, or you have the capacity to execute the set-up above, then here’s the pick of the bunch…
The Fault in Our Stars – Film4 – 6.25pm
You will cry, it has been scientifically proven* that it is impossible not to while watching this movie.
* May not actually be scientifically proven.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – Virgin Media One, 9pm
Comfortably one of, if not the best, entries in the Mission Impossible series.
Taken 3 – E4, 9pm
You’d think the Taken shtick would have grown a bit stale by the third outing and sadly, you’d be right.
Bad Neighbours – ITV2, 9pm
Remember the episode of The Simpsons when former President George Bush erected a poster of Homer and Bart flagging them as ‘two bad neighbours’?
Zac Efron and his crew are even worse.
Ocean’s Eleven – Comedy Central, 9pm
Raise a toast to Matt Damon on his departure from Ireland by watching one of his best-known movies, a stylish heist movie that still looks the business nearly 20 years after its original release.
Twelve Monkeys – SyFy, 9pm
24 years before winning Best Supporting Actor for his turn in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt was nominated for the award for a stellar performance in this bizarre but brilliant Terry Gilliam flick.
Central Intelligence – Film 4, 9pm
There are better options on at 9pm this evening, but you could do a lot worse than this too.
Z for Zachariah – RTÉ2, 9.45pm
An A-list cast in Margot Robbie, Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor adapt to life on a remote farmland following a nuclear holocaust.
The above summary doesn’t make it sound the most entertaining of tales, but it works.
