For the last episode of the season, the talk show is turning its attention to the Olympics.
With the 2020 Summer Olympics set to take place in Tokyo this July, a year later than scheduled, the Late Late’s final show of the season will see host Ryan Tubridy in conversation with previous Irish Olympic medallists as well as rising sports stars.
World champion boxer and Olympic gold medallist at London 2012, Katie Taylor, will appear on the programme for the first time since she turned professional in 2016.
Also set to talk to Tubridy about her Olympic success is former track and field athlete Sonia O’Sullivan, who 21 years ago was the recipient of a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics.
Looking ahead to this year’s Olympics, various Team Ireland athletes will be guests on the show including marathon runner Aoife Cooke, flyweight boxer Brendan Irvine, badminton player Nhat Nguyen, gymnast Rhys McClenaghan and Natalya Coyle, who will be competing in the modern pentathlon.
As they enter the final weeks of preparation for this year’s event, which is still shrouded in uncertainty amid calls for it to be cancelled for public health reasons, the group will discuss their journey to the Olympics.
Team Ireland Chef de Mission Tricia Heberle and CEO of the Olympic Federation of Ireland Peter Sherrard will also discuss the challenges that presented themselves ahead of what is truly an Olympics like no other.
After capturing the hearts of the nation on The Late Late Toy Show last year, meanwhile, Adam King returns to the show with his family with news of a special gift from a very important person that is “simply out of this world”.
As part of ongoing celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Alan Parker’s iconic adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s novel The Commitments, meanwhile, The Late Late Show Soul Band returns to the programme – this time led by singer Lucia Evans.
