It is one of 2023’s most anticipated movies.
Thanks to movies like The Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception, anticipation is always going to be high for a new blockbuster from Christopher Nolan.
But, like many of his movies before, there is a bit of mystery regarding what audiences can expect from his upcoming epic Oppenheimer.
What we do know is that it is based on the book American Prometheus and that it will focus on the life of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) and his contributions that led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
That said, it’s gorgeous if enigmatic trailer released earlier this year didn’t reveal a whole lot of specifics about how Nolan was going to tackle the subject matter.

We have, however, gotten a little bit more detail about the project courtesy of its costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, who has said that Oppenheimer will span 45 years in time.
Appearing on the podcast From Tailors with Love, Mirojnick discussed the differences between working on the recent Steven Soderbergh film Kimi and Nolan’s upcoming blockbuster.
She said: “[Kimi] was one location basically for the entire thing… That story was minuscular.
“Oppenheimer covers 45 years and quite a lot in the Los Alamos time and Oppenheimer’s life from beginning to end.”
J. Robert Oppenheimer managed the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, which produced the first nuclear weapons.
Some have speculated based on Mirojnick’s comments that the film will cover the theoretical physicist’s life from his first days in Cambridge all the way to his death in 1967.
Alongside Murphy, Nolan’s upcoming film also features Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, Kenneth Branagh, Jason Clarke, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Quaid and Florence Pugh amongst many more.
It will arrive in Irish cinemas on 21 July 2023.
