Stephen King has some amazing things to say about Netflix’s new horror series

Rory Cashin

As if we weren’t excited/scared enough to see this already.

Mike Flanagan knows horror. His tenure of horror at Netflix has resulted in some great, thrilling movies like Hush, Before I Wake and Gerald’s Game, but he is also the man behind hit scary series like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.

To say that there is anticipation for his new show, Midnight Mass, is a bit of an understatement, as he tells the story of the townsfolk on an isolated island who find themselves in the middle of a series of miraculous events. With many believing what is happening to be a direct sign from God, religious fervour on the island builds, with the true meaning behind the events being kept a secret from all but a select few.

Another person who definitely knows horror is Stephen King, who has had some of his stories – including The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep – adapted by Flanagan.

While Midnight Mass isn’t out for another few days, King received early access to the show, and he took to Twitter to share his thoughts, stating the following:

“Midnight Mass on Netflix: Mike Flanagan has created a dense, beautifully photographed terror tale that climbs to a high pitch of horror by the 7th and last episode.”

High praise.

JOE will share our full review of the new horror series in next week’s episode of The Big Reviewski. Meanwhile, all seven episodes of Midnight Mass will be available on Netflix from Friday, 24 September.
