WATCH: Teaser trailer for Picard Season 2 hints the return of a major villain

“The trial never ends…”

Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation were served well by the first season of Star Trek: Picard when it arrived in early 2020, thanks to return of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), as well as a host of other returning characters and actors from the much-loved sci-fi show.

Back then, we spoke to Stewart about how Trump and Brexit influenced the plot of the first season, and we spoke to the show’s creators about a very interesting Irish connection to the story.

For the show’s impending second season, we’ve known for a while now that Whoopi Goldberg would be returning to the role of inter-dimensional psychic being Guinan, but very little else was known about the direction the next season would be taking.

Then, to celebrate First Contact Day (the date in Star Trek: First Contact in which humans finally meet another alien race) this week, Paramount+ dropped a load of information on new and returning shows, including teasers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 4, Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 2, and the first look at new animated show Star Trek: Prodigy, based on the life of Captain Janeway, of Star Trek: Voyager fame.

However, the biggest revelation was the first teaser trailer for the second season of Star Trek: Picard, which gave very little away, but did focus in on some iconic items for The Next Generation run, before landing on a deck of cards, specifically the Queen of Hearts, before it begins to fade away, leaving nothing but the Q.

Yep, John de Lancie will be returning as omnipotent god-like creature Q, who is constantly holding mankind on trial, always unsure if they should be allowed to exist, and placing the entire thing on the shoulders of Picard, the man that Q has decided to be the figurehead for the entire species.

Seasons 2 of Star Trek Picard is due to arrive on Paramount+ in 2022, but unless that streaming service is made available in Ireland by then, we can probably expect it to launch much like the first season did over here, on Prime Video.
