Man in his mid-20s dies in two vehicle collision in Cork

Terrible news.

A man has died in a two-vehicle collision in Cork on Saturday (6 August).

Gardaí were alerted to a collision between a car and a 4×4 vehicle on the N71 at Smornane near Skibbereen at approximately 10.20pm.

The driver of the car, a man in his mid-20s, was treated at the scene by emergency services, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

His body was removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is set to be arranged.

The driver of the 4×4, a man in his 40s, was also removed from the scene to Cork University Hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The scene is preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions in place. The Coroner has also been notified.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time with camera footage, including dash cam footage, is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
