Take note if you’re living in Cork.
Cork City Council has issued a tidal flood alert from Tuesday 26 November until Wednesday 27 November.
The warning has been issued due to a period of very high astronomical Spring Tides which will see the water levels rise.
Their official page states:
“A tidal surge and periodic strong southerly/south-easterly winds are also predicted over the next few days.
“These factors combined will result in tide levels higher than the natural tide levels.”
The natural cycle of High Tides for the following days is predicted for 4.50am – 5.13pm on Tuesday.
As for Wednesday, the warning starts at 5.34am but at present, there’s no approximate end time.
From Tuesday morning until Wednesday evening, business and home owners are being advised to take precautionary measures to protect their property.
Cork City Council have a limited stock of gel bags and sand bags available.
Gel bags can be picked up from Council Depot, Anglesea Terrace (12pm – 6pm on Tuesday, 8am – 6pm on Wednesday).
Elsewhere, gel and and bags can be acquired from Tramore Valley Park just beyond Civil Amenity Site (same opening times as above apply).
Cork City Council have said:
“It is likely that flooding will occur in the low lying areas of the City Centre in particular on Morrison’s Quay, Fr. Mathew Quay, Fr. Mathew Street, Union Quay, Trinity Bridge, South Terrace, Lavitts Quay, Kyrls Street, Kyrls Quay, Crosses Green, Sharman Crawford St and Wandesford Quay.
“There is also a risk of flooding along Lapps Quay, McSwiney Quay, Albert Quay, Kennedy Quay, Proby’s Quay, French’s Quay, Lancaster Quay, Sullivan’s Quay, South Mall via side streets onto Oliver Plunkett Street and thence to Patrick Street, Grand Parade, Washington Street, and Lower Glanmire Road.”
The situation will continue to be monitored and further advice will be issued.
