Great news.

Delivery group DPD has announced it is to create 700 new jobs across Ireland.

Up to 150 positions will be based at its headquarters in Athlone, and the remaining 550 drivers and operational personnel will provide deliveries to and from its 35 depots.

The company said the move is due to a surge in online shopping since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It’s expected all of the roles will be filled before the end of 2020 and will increase DPD’s workforce to almost 2,000 people across the country.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar, TD, welcomed the investment saying: “This investment from DPD Ireland, which will create 700 jobs nationwide, is a fantastic boost to the country.

“Depots in Cork, Kildare and Meath have already doubled in size this year, attesting to the massive increase in online shopping we’ve seen during the pandemic.”

DPD is also opening two more facilities in Dublin next month.
