Gardaí renew witness appeal following assault on elderly man

It is believed that the assailant was wearing a mask.

Gardaí have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following an assault that took place at Courtney Place, Ballybough in Dublin 3 in the early hours of Saturday morning ,17 August.

A man in his 70s suffered serious head and spinal injuries during the assault and was taken to the Mater Hospital, with his condition described as critical.

Days on, Gardaí have renewed their witness appeal, calling attention to a mask that they believe the assailant may have worn during the attack, a replica of which can be seen below.

Investigating officers are particularly interested in locating the mask, which has yet to recovered and may have been discarded.

Anyone who has seen the mask or anything matching its description is asked to make contact with the incident room at Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 666 8600.
