Two men are alleged to have brought the man onto the premises in an attempt to claim his pension.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the death of an elderly man in Carlow, whose body was allegedly brought by two other men into a post office.
The Irish Times reports that the body was taken into a post office in the county propped up by the two men in what appeared to be an attempt to collect the deceased man’s pension.
A source familiar with the incident told the paper that it’s understood that after the group approached a counter in the post office, a concerned staff member asked about the well-being of the man propped up.
The source said at this point the two men let go of the man and left the scene, after which staff checked on the man and discovered he was deceased.
“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the unexplained death of an elderly male in the Carlow area this morning, Friday 21 January,” a Garda spokesperson told JOE.
“The services of the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.
“A post mortem will be conducted by the Office of the State Pathologist, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.”
