Winter is coming.
Hail, frost and temperatures in low single figures are to be expected in the coming days as Met Éireann has forecast that “distinctly cooler conditions” will hit Ireland by this weekend.
One might be tempted to say that at least that forecast marks a change from the seemingly incessant rain of late, but there’s plenty of that on the way too.
After a showery Tuesday, Wednesday will actually get off to a dry and bright start with good sunny spells, particularly in the east of the country.
Scattered showers will eventually spread from the west across the country on what will be a blustery night, with frequent heavy showers in the north and west.
Those heavy showers will continue on Thursday, with the west of the country set to be the worst affected once more, potentially even by hail showers along with strong and gusty southwesterly winds.
The “distinctly cooler conditions” Met Éireann has warned of will make their presence felt at the weekend, when temperatures will be “below normal” for this time of year, hitting close to freezing in places.
Met Éireann has warned of “chilly” nights with some ground frosts possible inland at the weekend and while there will be good dry spells on Saturday and Sunday, showers will be also be frequent.
Not the best forecast for the coming days then, but we’ve had worse.
