weather warning Ireland

It’s one of those weeks, it seems.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for 10 counties across Ireland as the second half of the week looks set to be a washout.

The warning, issued on Tuesday, but not valid until Thursday, affects Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Met Éireann says heavy and persistent rain from Wednesday night until Friday morning will lead to flooding and disruption in some areas.

Mountainous areas will receive the highest totals but it’s expected there will be 30mm to 60mm of rain in many areas.

The warning comes into effect in the early hours of Thursday morning and will remain in place until 6am on Friday.

Wednesday will be cool and blustery with sunny spells, but there will be showers, some of which will be heavy and prolonged with a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms in the northwest.

Rain on Thursday will be heaviest in the west and south of the country, with a risk of flooding, but should be lighter and patchy in the east and northeast.

While Friday will start out wet and breezy, most areas should see dry conditions during the afternoon. However, it’s expected more rain will track across southern counties in the evening.

As we move towards Saturday and Sunday, Met Éireann said current indications suggest an unsettled weekend with further spells of rain and strong winds.
