Granted, those two statements do lean pretty heavily on the hyperbole, but given the horrific weather that we’ve endured over the last few weeks, there’s more chance of Leo Varadkar and Mary Lou McDonald dancing on the rainswept steps of Leinster House than this crap weather abating.
Anyway, Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
Joy, absolute joy.
In terms of what’s expected, people in those four counties are set to endure 25 to 35mm of rain but with the ground saturated at the moment and river levels elevated, the forecast may lead to some localised surface and river flooding.
This warning is valid from 3am on Friday 21 February until 3am on Saturday 22 February.
In terms of the overall forecast for Friday, it’s set to be wet and windy in the morning, especially over the northern half of the country.
Elsewhere, it’s expected to be cloudy at first, with rain and drizzle gradually edging southwards, reaching all areas by afternoon. The rain will be heaviest in the west.
As for Friday night, scattered blustery showers are expected to form with gales on the western and northern coasts.
The blustery conditions will carry into Saturday with cloudy and widespread showers, the showers are set to be most frequent in the north and west.
