People in 20 counties should brace themselves for a wet one…
Having issued a status yellow rainfall warning on Sunday morning, Met Éireann has updated the initial advisory, adding Limerick to the list of counties affected.
The counties affected by the warning are:
Galway, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Clare and Tipperary.
The warning is valid from 8pm on Sunday (23 February) until 8am on Monday.
According to Met Éireann, a spell of rain from Sunday into Monday will lead to accumulations of between 20 to 25 millimetres, with higher totals possible in upland areas.
“The rain is likely to be preceded by a period of sleet and snow in parts of Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, with hazardous driving conditions for a time, before turning to rain later,” notes the official forecast.
Met Éireann also highlights already saturated ground and elevated river levels that, combined with rainfall and snow melt, could lead to localised surface and river flooding.
