Weather warning

Bad start to the week.

In terms of the most Monday mornings that were ever Mondayed, 14 October 2019 must surely be at the top of the list.

Granted, we’re not certain that sentence has made it into the official meteorological lexicon that’s used by the people at Met Éireann, but it’s a perfectly apt description because this morning is wet, gloomy, and miserable.

Ah well, at least there’s the upcoming game against New Zealand at the Rugby World Cup to cheer us up! On second thoughts…

On the weather front, things aren’t looking too good for anyone that lives in Connacht, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford because a status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for those areas.

The warning is valid from Monday, 14 October at 10:00 until 23:59 on the same day.

The warning states that “heavy falls of rain (are expected) today with a risk of flooding” in those areas.

In terms of today’s general forecast, Met Éireann have said that persistent and heavy rain is expected in many areas with a risk of flooding and thunder. These conditions are expected to carry on into the night.

Aside from this, a status yellow small craft warning has also been issued.

That particular warning states that “cyclonic variable winds will reach force 6 or higher for a time today on coasts from Howth Head to Valentia to Slyne Head.”

Take care if you’re out and about.
