It just wasn't meant to be for Wicklow man Paul Dunne at The Open after Zach Johnson ultimately lifted the Claret Jug following a play-off win over Louis Oosthuizen & Marc Leishman.
Irish fans were treated to some thrilling golf over the weekend though as Padraig Harrington also turned in a masterclass at St Andrews but the majority of the world's eyes were on the incredible exploits of the amateur Paul Dunne.
One his first two days, Dunne carded 69's but it was his third day that truly grabbed the attention of golf fans everywhere after he shot a stunning round of 66.
Most of us were hoping for a fairytale ending but it just wasn't to be.
It seems though that Irish golf fans have a new rising star to look out for and some famous names, including Shane Lowry and Brian O'Driscoll, were quick to show their admiration and respect.
