Ticketmaster accused of breaching consumer law over Oasis tickets

Ticketmaster has been accused of "misleading commercial practice" in connection with ticket sales for the Oasis reunion concerts at Croke Park last year.

The ticket giant has been accused of breaching consumer law in two charges under the Consumer Protection Act in connection with Oasis tickets sold on 31 August 2024, following an investigation by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

Remy Farrell SC representing Ticketmaster that he anticipated that "the case will be fully contested".

Ticketmaster is charged with providing prices for tickets, "in a manner that was unclear, unintelligible, ambiguous or untimely, where such a practice was likely to cause the average consumer to make a transactional decision that the average consumer would not otherwise make".

It is also accused of offering platinum tickets, "in a manner which would be likely to cause the average consumer to be deceived or misled in relation to the main characteristics of that product, including the specifications of the product, and to make a transactional decision that the average consumer would not otherwise make".

Ronan Kennedy SC representing the CCPC requested a four week adjournment to allow for disclosure between the parties.

The judge adjourned the case until 5th October.
