As it presses ahead with network savings following last year's Three UK merger

As it formed a business worth close to £14 billion, the operator was created last year when Vodafone's UK arm merged with Three.

By 2032, VodafoneThree has lifted its savings target to £1 billion a year.

This is up from an original £700 million goal.

The extra £300 million will come largely from trimming the combined phone mast network.

Meanwhile, site numbers are set to fall from around 37,000 down to about 26,000.

According to Vodafone, the savings would not come at the cost of jobs.

VodafoneThree cost cutting targets overlapping phone masts

Prior to the merger, many Vodafone and Three sites sat close together.

And now, VodafoneThree is now removing that overlap.

"We created VodafoneThree because we saw the opportunity to transform the UK market", group chief executive Margherita Della Valle said.

"After a strong start, we now have even greater confidence in the opportunity ahead", she added.

What happens next for VodafoneThree

In July this year, the group completed a buyout of former partner CK Hutchison's 49% stake for £4.3 billion, a move which removed another layer of duplicated costs.

As RTÉ reported, annual savings are due to reach £800 million by 2029-30.

Meanwhile, cost pressure is a live issue on this side of the Irish Sea as well.

As per a recent poll, in order to pursue a better quality of life, 7 in 10 young adults are considering leaving Ireland.

At the same time, this year's budget also included a €100 voucher for Irish teenagers for culture and music events.
