Couple who swore affidavits in Conor McGregor civil rape case charged with perjury

Samantha O’Reilly (38) and Steven Cummins (39) have appeared before Dublin District Court this morning accused of making false statements.

McGregor was found liable of assault in civil court of the assault of Nikita Hand in 2018, she alleged he brutally raped her.

Mr McGregor had claimed that the evidence provided by Ms O'Reilly and Mr Cummins proved he was not responsible for bruising on Ms Hand's body.

Ms Hand, in an affidavit, had strongly rejected her former neighbours' evidence.

The couple, who live in Cherry Orchard Drive in Ballyfermot, were arrested following an investigation by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI). 

Both are accused of giving a statement material in the proceedings on affidavit which was false and they knew to be false.

The couple informed the court that neither are currently working and were applying for legal aid.

The GNBCI detectives also said that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed that the case go forward for trial on indictment before the Circuit Court, which has broader sentencing powers on conviction.

They will appear before the court again on November 9.
