Spanish police considering electrocution in death of Monaghan woman and husband

Spanish police now believe a Castleblaney woman who died in Spain may have been electrocuted.

The 45 year old woman and her husband, who is from New Zealand, were both pronounced dead after being found naked in the hot tub by their 13 and 16 year-old children.

The children alerted the home owner who contacted the Spanish police.

Initially the Spanish police believed there may have been a homocide, however, they now believe it may have been accidental.

The couple were found yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon on an upmarket residential estate called Cap Blanc in Cullera.

The family live in London, while the woman is from a well known family in Co. Monaghan through the arts and the GAA.

The dead woman's father worked for RTE as a director for a number of TV shows for many years while her brother sits on the board of Monaghan GAA.

Some of the woman's siblings have travelled to Spain to be with the children.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed to JOE it was aware of the incident and confirmed it was providing consular assistance in the case of one Irish citizen.

A spokeswoman told the JOE: "The Department is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance in the case of the Irish citizen concerned.

"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
