Two teenagers arrested driving wrong way on the motorway

Two teenage boys were arrested after a garda car was rammed.

The car was stolen in the Coolock area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Gardaí said they responded with a "managed containment operation" shortly before 8pm, after a "number of dangerous driving episodes" involving the stolen car, including driving against the flow of traffic, were reported on the M50 and in the Whitehall, Finglas and Ballymun areas.

The garda car was rammed at the junction of the M1 and the R132 on the M50, before the stolen car was brought to a controlled stop.

Two boys, aged in the their late teens, were arrested at the scene.

One of the boys has since been charged in Dublin Children's Court.

he youth, who cannot be identified because he is a minor, appeared before the Dublin Children’s Court on Friday following his arrest in connection with the incident on Thursday evening, September 17.

He was accused of stealing a Toyota car, was seen driving the vehicle and therefore facing seven counts of dangerous driving, mainly in the Finglas area of north Dublin, including at Junction 5 on the M50.

Garda Seán Power objected to the boy’s bail, citing the seriousness of the case and fears he would not attend trial.

The other teenager was released with a file to be sent to the Youth Diversion Programme.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
