John James English confirmed an arson attack had been carried out on his mother's Anne’s house.

A relative of murdered Philip English, who died alongside his wife Kim and two of their sons in an arson attack in Waterford last week, owed drug-debts to two different gangs.

Philip and his wife Kim appeared to be on the hook for the money, despite never agreeing that they would pay it.

It was revealed by Philip's son John James last week, that the fire attack that took the family's lives was not the first intimidatory attack on them or their relatives.

Kim English, Philip English and their sons Callum (12) and Jayden (9) died at home in the Birchwood estate at 5am on Tuesday morning. Nadia (14) and Elliot (6) remain critically ill in hospital.

The relative has three debts owing at the moment. The largest is €20,000.

Speaking at the Garda Training College on Friday, Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said he expects more people to be arrested.

Seven searches have been carried out, and a man and a woman appeared in court on Saturday charged in connection to the arson attack.

The family were buried side by side on Sunday. Four hearses carrying the coffins of Philip and Kim English and their sons, Jayden and Callum, arrive at the Sacred Heart Church Parish Centre, The Folly, Waterford as hundreds of people lined the streets.

Boys from Johnville FC in Waterford, where Callum won a league title at under 11 level, provided a guard of honour.

The tricolour, a Waterford flag and a Liverpool FC jersey were among the items draped on the coffins.

The club’s anthem 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' had been played at a vigil last week at the Birchwood estate when pink and blue balloons were released into the sky.
