Welcome to the weekend. Whether you are staying in or heading out we have got it covered. Time to leave the working week behind with our top 5 picks.
5. Watch 40 oiled-up men in shorts at the Royal Rumble
Though we at JOE slowly lost interest in the world of the WWE in recent years, the sight of Dubliner Sheamus winning the WWE Championship in December 2009 was certainly a head-turning moment. Out of all the WWE pay-per-view events, Royal Rumble has the be the most enjoyable for the neutral.
As always, a new wrestler enters the ring at designated intervals, all struggling to throw their rivals over the top rope, however this year's Rumble will feature 40 participants, rather than 30. The victor of Sunday's event will face the WWE Champion at Wrestlemania XXVII on April 3. We'll be hoping against hope that Sheamus can pull off an upset. 4. Laugh at Jedward in Killarney
Or don't. It's a sad sight for Irish music fans when our top gig pick this weekend is the insufferable Jedward twins, who take to the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney, with tickets available for the princely sum of €25.00. If you're hoping to keep your child or hyperactive cousin out of your hair for a few hours, you could do much worse. Here's a snippet below of what you can expect:
3. Watch 'The Stath' wreak havoc in The Mechanic
Fresh from nearly stealing the show in The Expendables, 'The Stath' returns to the silver screen of Charles Bronson's 1972 thriller of the same name, The Mechanic follows an elite hit man (Statham) as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims. Even critics have been more generous than usual for Statham's latest output.
2. Shut the blinds and wet your pants playing Dead Space 2
The sequel to possibly the most terrifying video game of the current console generation reaches PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 this weekend. With top reviews and a magnificent Smashing Pumpkins-infused trailer (featured below), hopes are high. To coincide with EA's survival horror release, we recently previewed our top five scariest moments of video game history. Caution - contains Super Mario 64.
1. Chuckle along to David O'Doherty
Fresh from an excellent stint hosting Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Dublin standup David O'Doherty strides into Kavanaghs of Portlaoise. At just €17.50 a ticket, O'Doherty's represent excellent value and we can't imagine any punter at his show without a severe case of side-splittage.
