US Fundamentalist group Council of Conservative Citizens have announced that they are to boycott next summer's Marvel Studios release Thor, on account of it's non-white casting.
The first trailer for the May 2011 action epic from Kenneth Branagh has recieved huge plaudits from Marvel Comics fans and filmgoers alike in the US, though the CofCC have been less than impressed, releasing a statement that 'Marvel Studios declare war on Norse mythology', in which they posit their argument as follows:
"Norse mythology gets multi-cultural remake in upcoming movie titled “Thor,” Marvel studios. It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservatives values, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin."
"It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves. An upcoming movie, based on the comic book Thor, will give the Aesir (the principal group of gods in Norse mythology) an insulting multi-cultural make-over."

The Wire star Idris Elba has a few shots in the released trailer, and is pictured above, in the role of Heimdall. Asked for his thoughts on the boycott, Elba stated "Thor’s mythical, right? Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That’s OK, but the color of my skin is wrong?" Thor is released in early May 2011.
