A new Lord of the Rings film is set to be released in 2026, with the director of the original trilogy Peter Jackson set to return for the project.
Jackson returns to produce alongside his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
Variety reports that the trio “will be involved every step of the way” in the Warner Bros-backed project.
"‘Lord of the Rings’ is one of the most successful and revered franchises in history and presents a significant opportunity for theatrical business," Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said.
It is currently in the early stages of development, but Zaslav explained that it will "explore storylines yet to be told."
