The Traitors finalist reveals rule that could cost contestants ‘hundreds of thousands’ if broken

It turns out participants are tested long before getting in front of the cameras.

One of the star’s of last year’s edition of hit BBC show The Traitors has revealed that contestants are given a strict stipulation long before they enter the castle to start the game.

Jaz Singh – who was dubbed ‘Jazatha Christie’ for his inspiring performance in season two – spoke to The Sun about what being in the much-loved game show is really like.

The BBC Asian Network presenter was prompted to apply for the show by his father, who felt he had the perfect skillset to do well.

It turns out his Dad was very much on the money as Jaz manoeuvred his way into the final three of last year’s competition, narrowly losing out to Harry Clark who took home £95k after going through the entire series as a traitor.

“I went through a hundred Zooms, a hundred auditions,” Singh said.

Two weeks prior to filming, producers told Jaz his application had been successful. However, he received a stark warning from show runners to keep his imminent departure for the Scottish highlands a secret from all his friends and family.

Singh was made to sign an NDA committing to keeping his involvement in the show under wraps.

“You have to get a ton of stuff prepared, how you’re going to deliver this information to various family members to keep this a secret, because you’re under an NDA, and they will sue you for hundreds of thousands of pounds of TV damages if this gets leaked.”

The Manchester native continued: “So it is such a tactful process, and then to get on eventually, it’s mind-blowing.

“You are playing the game before you even enter that castle, before you even get a tap on the shoulder, before you put them blindfolds on, before Claudia says ‘hello’.”

This coming Wednesday, suspicions on The Traitors will enter an all-time high as the game enters its final quarter before concluding on Friday.

Jaz admitted that he’s been glued to the current series of the show and is adamant that what you see on TV is a fair representation of what’s actually happening inside the manor.

“Nothing’s edited to make it look like in any other way,” he said. “I think that’s the great thing about Traitors.

“Back in the day, reality TV, ‘oh, we’d love a fight, we’d love an argument’, you know, whereas Traitors is a natural, elongated argument, which you can’t really get away from, and it’s so hard not to take things personally.”

The Traitors returns to BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday.
