What's Tesco's solution for Manchester United fans still licking their wounds after the weekend's derby drubbing? Let them eat cake, albeit at a cheeky knockdown price.
In what was certainly not a half-baked effort to raise the hackles of Red Devils fans, one rogue Tesco employee decided to mimic the stunning derby scoreline by dropping the price of Manchester United cakes to £1 and placing them next to the City cakes, which cost £6.
United fans still smarting over the 1-6 weekend home loss will decry any reminder of the terrible defeat, but many footballs fans reckon the Tesco employee's work was priceless.
As one tweeted: "Tesco symbolises all that's wrong with capitalist society. But you have to admire their Manchester cake-based humour."
Was the rogue worker a City fan? Did he just have his cake and eat it too? Can we blame him for wanting a slice of the action? Will we ever run out of cake puns? Let us know if you reckon Tesco's price drop was the icing on the cake for gloating City fans.
