You would have thought after all the furore caused last week with his highly controversial tweet, Ashley Cole would know better. Think again.
By Declan Whooley
There have been calls from many for Roy Hodgson to drop the Chelsea defender from the England squad ahead of the game against San Marino on Friday, with Alan Shearer leading the charge to have the 99 cap defender punished.
For taking to social media to call the FA ‘a bunch of twats’, Shearer believes the wordsmith needs to be dropped, rather than fined in order to learn his lesson.
“I think the FA can put a big statement out here by actually not fining him but actually banning him on Friday against San Marino because we've seen players fined £50,000, £60,000, £70,000. That's not a deterrent to them,” he said on Match of the Day.
Cole responded with a tweet, which has subsequently been removed, full of spite for the former England front-man.
"Alan Shearer says @TheRealAC3 needs to be banned for comments. I want his opinion on bans for kicking Neil Lennon in the head. #GlassHouses."
That kick, as the clip below shows, did not paint Shearer in a good light and was hit with a misconduct charge by the FA. The current Celtic manager actually provided evidence to clear the Newcastle striker as he avoided the ban. Not that it matters to Cole.
Either way, it was yet another questionable move by the Chelsea left-back, though England should not face too many difficulties in seeing off the challenge of San Marino on Friday night. #easytouches
