Entertainment Weekly have scored a world exclusive today – the first details and glimpse of Sony’s upcoming 2011 juggernaut: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.

Promising to focus on the relationship between the series hero Nathan Drake and his mentor and father figure, Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Deception apparently centres around Drake’s search for a legendary lost city. Developer Naughty Dog have said that Deception will take Uncharted’s hero to the Arabian Peninsula and the vast wasteland of the Rub’ al Khali Desert, aka the Empty Quarter.

According to Naughty Dog’s creative director Ann Hennig, we can expect revolutionary sand-based game play mechanics: “When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!’” she told EW. Hennig also the website that Naughty Dog are looking to expand the series’ co-op and multiplayer capabilities.

“We want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre. It (multiplayer) has become something here at Naughty Dog that will become an important part to all our games.”

Further details and a possible release date for the PS3 exclusive are expected this weekend, as the game will receive it’s first full trailer during the Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 11. Pre-production has also begun on a cinematic version of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which is set to star Mark Wahlberg.
