“Nobody was killed – though obviously the incident with the goat shouldn’t have happened.”

Any story that has the above quote in it is definitely worth your time.

A junior football team in Donegal are reportedly in a spot of hot water following some of their off field antics at the weekend.

Inishowen League Premier Division side Greencastle are said to have incensed the residents of the island Arranmore  with their behaviour last weekend following their game on the Island.

Greencastle won the game 6-0, but they stuck around on the Island that night.

According to the Inish Times and Donegal Now, “Damage was done in the hostel they were staying in, a handbrake was let off a car and it rolled down a hill into two more, and a goat was allegedly ridden like a horse in a nearby field.”

A source has told the Inish Times, that the people responsible for the ruckus on the Island with a population of just 500 people are deeply remorseful for their actions.

“The boys are ashamed,” the source said. “They know they have been stupid, and they have admitted responsibility and will be paying for the damage they caused.

“This shouldn’t have happened. The actions of a few players have damaged the reputation of the entire club, but the boys in question will take whatever punishment is handed out to them.

“I think we also have to be careful not to demonise them over the head of this. I’m not making excuses for them, but we’ve all done stupid things as young men, especially with drink taken.

“Nobody was killed – though obviously the incident with the goat shouldn’t have happened.”

It’s unclear what sanctions the players will face for their actions with the Inishowen Football League waiting for an official report  before deciding whether or not to take action.
