The show’s creators took to social media to tease the upcoming fifth and final season.

The writers of Stranger Things have released the very first scene from the script for the upcoming fifth and final season of the show.

Yesterday (6 November) was Stranger Things Day, which is celebrated every year by fans of the coming-of-age sci-fi horror series.

It marks the date when Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) goes missing in the show’s very first episode.

As part of the celebration, each year, Netflix and the Stranger Things creators will often release special content for fans and make announcements about the series.

And this year, we were treated to a glimpse at the very first scene of the season five script, with the show’s writers sharing a picture of it on Twitter.

The small snippet reads: “DARKNESS. The sound of COLD WIND. GROANING TREES. And…

“A CHILD’S VOICE. Singing a familiar song:”

And that’s how the show’s final season will begin.

Fans were quick to speculate about who the child was and what song he was singing, with one character springing to mind for many: Will Byers.

One fan simply wrote: “It’s will.”

Another commented: “A flashback of Will in the Upside Down is how S5 starts.”

Others agreed that the child would be Will, and suggested that the song would be The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go’, a track which played a big part in the show’s first season.

The theory that the kid in question is Will would align with previous comments made by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers that the character would take “centre stage again” in the final batch of episodes.

Stranger Things is arguably Netflix’s biggest show. Its fourth season was released last summer and broke a huge amount of streaming records and sparked a revival for the Kate Bush song ‘Running Up That Hill’.

That said, it could be a while before we get to see how the story of Eleven, Hawkins and The Upside Down concludes in its fifth and final season due to the ongoing Hollywood actors’ strike.
