An x-ray from the Arizona University Medical Centre shows how an 86-year-old American can count himself as one of the luckiest men alive.
In a freak accident that would put the majority of Internet virals to shame, 86-year-old Leroy Luetscher managed to wedge a gardening shears into his eye socket and down his neck.
Leroy was working on his yard in his native Green Valley in Arizona last month when he dropped a pair of shears on the ground. The shears landed in the grass with the sharp points sticking into the ground making the handles stick up vertically in the air.
When Leroy bent down to pick them up, he lost his balance and fell down, face-first, onto the handle. The handle then penetrated his eye socket and went down his neck. Half the shears was stuck inside his head while the other half protruded from his eye socket.

After contacting the emergency services, Leroy was rushed to hospital where the surgeons removed the shears and rebuilt the socket wall with a metal mesh, thus saving his vision.
According to medical staff, Leroy still has slight swelling in his eyelids and minor double vision but has otherwise recovered. We’re sure he’ll be keeping an ‘eye out’ next time, no?
