Two of Germany’s biggest exports are recalling certain models in Ireland after faults were found in cars owned by BMW and VW… but don’t worry, it’s not across their whole range.
The Volkswagen Group, owners of car brands such as Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and VW (obviously), has begun contacting owners of 2,112 cars that have a specific 2-litre TDi engine.
The recall is due to a problem with the engine’s fuel pipes. Apparently, there is some scoring on the fuel pipes that can crack and leak diesel. The problem affects cars with a 2-litre TDi engine that were bought from 2009 onwards.
According to the Irish Independent, the models included in the recall are some versions of the VW Passat (1,963 in total), the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb (143).
Audi also have to recall a hand full of their A3 models, however SEAT and VW Commercial vehicles are un-affected by the recall.
The problem doesn’t take long to fix and a spokesman for the VW Group said the repairs could be carried out “while you wait”.
BMW is also recalling 292 MINIs in Ireland after some models were found to have an electrical fault. The fault affects the MINI Cooper S and the MINI John Cooper Works models.
The recall with the MINIs is focused on an electrical problem, which can cause the water pump to fail and could potentially lead to the car overheating.
